Where to begin… We are all feeling it, helplessness in the face of tragedy after tragedy. We all want to do something. As we watch the madness unfolding in Minneapolis and across the country. We see folks on the frontlines, making a difference and exercising their rights to protest. In spite of the COVID-19 epidemic, there are folks still willing to take to the streets and risk everything to fight for justice for all of us. It is important to us that we get funds to those in need and want a positive change. Diedrick Brackens and Calida Rawles have created a limited run of posters to raise funds supporting the organizations above. You will receive both artist posters with proof of your direct donation (in the amount of $100 dollars or greater) to one of these efforts. Donate by link in bio and email your receipt to action@vsf.la #DiedrickBrackens #CalidaRawles #GeorgeFloyd #BreonnaTaylor #AhmaudArbery #TonyMcdade #TakeAction #BlackLivesMatter #Minnesota #protest #Louisville

Food is a Weapon Never forget that farming practices and the culinary innovations of enslaved Africans and Indigenous Americans are the foundation of “American” cuisine. Never forget that the agricultural power and history of farming in this country is entirely a result of Black people’s labor. Access to food is and has been a race issue. Underserved areas historically exist as areas of food apartheid. We don’t use the term food deserts because that implies a natural occurrence of some sort. This shit is anything but natural, but much like the public lynching of Black people it is as American as apple pie Food for Thought You do the dishes. I generally avoid writing much on here. I’m not good with words, thats why I draw my thoughts and opinions instead, but as someone with large online following it feels wrong to not explicitly say, I stand in solidarity with the Black community, the protesters and campaigners. Not just in the US but here in the UK where we also have our own problems with racism and state violence. I say this because 78% of my following are women. White women, myself included, can’t just turn a blind eye just because it doesn’t affect us. We need to be honest with ourselves about our own privilege, and our complicity in white supremacy and structural racism. We all need to put in the work to educate ourselves, and challenge racial injustice not just by posting online but by actually speaking up behind closed doors too, at work, in our political parties and in our own communities. If you have the means to donate to the various fundraisers that’s a good place to start (I’ve added a link to my bio). It is obviously a very difficult time for many people due to the ongoing pandemic and I want to stress that if you cannot afford to right now please feel no shame in that. As well as making my own donations to US bail funds and memorials, this week I will be donating 100% of profits from my print sales to Belly Mujinga’s family. Black lives matter.

never has been. for the past few weeks i had been planning a COVID-19 charity print sale of some of my photos, which i am still working on but am indefinitely postponing due to current circumstances. that said, in the meantime, if you donate $20 equivalent to any of the protest funds or related (link in bio for some), show me some proof along with your address, i’ll make a handprint of this photo for you and send it free of charge. took a few other photos alongside this one which i’ll post over the next few days. unsure on the current consensus regarding posting faces and identities, so will keep to no face for now. but the same applies to any of those photos: donate $20 and i’ll send you a print, free of charge, specially made from my bedroom/darkroom. a4 sized.
